- Becak
Speeding its passenger’s home before an impending tropical downpour, these are the beautiful sensuous lines of the 'Becaks' of Yogyakarta. These machines would otherwise glide silently past but for a piece of gut stretched tight beneath their carriage. It produces a distinctive pretty modulated buzzing sound to alert pedestrians of the Becak's presence. There is also usually an old bolt tied to the handle bar with an elastic band. The driver uses this device to demand a clear passage in crowded conditions. The resulting metallic 'clackety, clack clack' sound resonates around the frame of the Becak.
- Dokar/Delman/Andong
A dokar is the jiggling, horse-drawn cart found throughout Indonesia. The two-wheeled carts are usually brightly coloured with decorative motifs and bells; the small horses or ponies often have long tassels attached to their bridle. A typical dokar has bench seating on either side, which can comfortably fit three or four persons. In Yogyakarta you will also see the andong or delman, which is a larger horse-drawn four wheel wagon designed to carry six people.
- Trans Jogja Busway
Yogyakarta has welcomed the newly launched Trans Jogja with hopes the system, similar to the TransJakarta busway, can provide affordable, comfortable public transportation. Thousands of residents, including students, have used the new busway since its official opening by Governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X. Trans Jogja buses travel on dedicated busway lanes across the province, 16 hours a day, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. ( )
