The implementations of “Healthy Indonesian 2010” become the aim of Indonesian development on health sector. In the effort of implementing the vision, target of development is being settled to the achievement of health awareness, health willingness, and ability to have a healthy life among the people to achieve the optimum health status.

Based on the Human Development Report UNDP 2005, the score of Indonesian Human Development Index (HDI) is 0,697 and place the position of 110 from 171 country participants. Meanwhile, in the plan of middle term health development, the government set that the Indonesian life expectancy rate should be increase from 66,2 year become 70,6 by the end of 2009. This plan has changed our demographic pattern into higher number of the elderly and adds more challenges on health sector.

Indonesia nowadays has faced the emerging of double burden nutrition problem in the same time; they are under nutrition and over nutrition. The under nutrition related problems such as protein-energy malnutrition, Vitamin A deficiency, iron deficiency and iodine deficiency related disease still become the biggest health problem in Indonesia.  Malnutrition happens not only in the community level but also among the hospitalized patients. Hospital malnutrition becomes a serious problem for the healing process of the patient, moreover for the post surgical patient; hospital malnutrition can delay the healing process and increase the mortality level. Nutrition status could be deteriorate during the curing phase in hospital and the patient who loss his weight significantly is in danger of relapse. A study on hospital malnutrition prevalence shows the data that there is almost 20%-60% patient with hospital malnutrition. On nutrition research that being conduct in Latin-America (2002) that engage 9.360 participants in 13 country, the scientist found that there are 50,1% malnourished patient, and among all there are 12,6% severe malnourished patients.

On the other hand, Indonesia also has to face the epidemiology transition that sign by the change of morbidity cases type, from infectious diseases into degenerative diseases such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM), heart disease, stroke and metabolic syndromes.

One main factor that affects the success of nutrition improvements effort is about the nutrition man power. The role of professional nutrition association becomes very important today in terms of giving proper nutrition therapy to the patient.

There is rapid improvement in nutrition research today that called the dietitian to increase his or her own knowledge and skill regularly. The dietitian to increase their ability on solving Indonesia’s nutrition problems was doing much research. Therefore, the need for conducting such scientific meeting to disseminate the research is very high and the professional association is in charge for doing so. Dietitian is a health professional that posses the highest level of education to understand human nutrition and its arrangement for the people.
